“On a bright moonlight night, five robots escort a mysterious object on some nefarious mission.” Or something. I needed an excuse to practice OSL with my new airbrush. There are imperfections here. My white primer spatters something fierce unless I’m careful (and I don’t have white ink yet). I probably went too hard on the from-above light blue “moonlight”. The mysterious object isn’t detailed enough (but now I have thin styrene, to fix that in the future). I need to detail the lightning in the undercarriage with whites and yellows. Still, that red glow is something else and since that was the whole point of the operation I’m real happy with it! I’m learning I need to be a little lighter on OSL and let dark backgrounds contrast with the highlight of the OSL. Getting better quickly, at least.
One thing I did that I’m kind of proud of is Happy Little Accidenting the fact that my terrain paste (herbs in black paint and glue) didn’t cover all the edges of the oval robot bases. So I sanded up an oval rod of XPS, sliced it thin, and stuck it down on the diorama base before I textured it up. Now they look like they’re just walking in their environment! But next time maybe I file the edges down before I glue them in place.
Unseen here are the thin steel sheets I glued into the holes and the larger than usual magnets I used in the bases because these are pewter models glued to a plastic base. No longer does a slight bump topple everything, and they travel well.
