Killa Kan scratchbuild WIP

With my gretchin conversion done, the next unit I wanted to get done (so I could stop using battletech mechs as proxies) was a trio of Killa Kans- the urbanmechs of 40k. Shitty tin cans whose primary ability is violence. I don’t plan to use more than three of these even in an army, but I might like to swap their loadouts for skirmish games, so I’m building them to magnetize and swap weapons. And because I like variety, I went for three different “armour plate” arrangements and also three different locomotive approaches;

  • stompy gundamy plantigrade posed with one foot in midair,
  • digitigrade “maybe they looted a tau?” skinny ankles and thicc thighs,
  • and “wheels are fast, right?” which gives me the excuse to build a dust cloud on the base.

The standard model in OPR comes with pinchy claws, which gave me an opportunity to lean into my “cult of the wrench” loadouts with offset jaws. The claws can be upgraded to a saw blade. And what’s a chainsaw if not a long saw blade, right? And, finally, they come with a standard bazooka with lots of fun upgrades, only two of which I’m building, for time’s sake; a heavy MG (inspired by Ma Deuce) and a rocket launcher. Later I’ll slap together a flamer and plasma gun, for which I have some pretty nice parts already.

I’ve been having way more fun than I expected with these already. I’m maybe half done the total time. I need to build the shoulders and arms to mag the weapons, I’m going to texture/greebly them before I glue them together, and I’m not quite done the torsos (backpacks and dick plates). I picked up and broke open a Brita water filter, because I need rivets and I live in Canada which made plastic microbeads illegal (but not ceramic microbeads!). I was hoping to have them done for next weekend but I think I have more to do before they’re even finished building.

Oh, and I’m trying to fit them on 30mm bases to match the official 40k size. Which… uh, is possible, though they’re probably a little beefy.
